Designed to Heal

“Disease is not an entity, but a fluctuating condition of the patient’s body, a battle between the substance of disease and the natural self-healing tendency of the body.”

~Hippocrates

When you’ve been unwell for months, maybe years, it starts to wear on you. It begins to shape your perspective in ways that you might not even realize. You begin to identify yourself with your diagnosis or the symptoms that you are managing and its perceived limitations.

Those limitations may be practical– “I can no longer bathe my baby or wash the dishes because of my eczema.”

“I’m always too tired to go out on the weekends.”

“I can’t be in crowded places because it makes me feel anxious.”

Or those limitations could merely be ideas that we’ve been conditioned to believe about our capacity to heal. Traditional medicine has subconsciously taught us that once we have been given a name or a label for our problem, that the only thing to do from then on is to take the meds and manage the disease.

Medical doctors aren’t taught preventative medicine or nutrition. They are taught to diagnose and prescribe

Most people don’t believe they can overcome their diagnosis. Many people have never even considered it.

I think that’s part of why until recently I have struggled to convey the untapped wellness potential that can be yours when you begin to think outside of this box. I can’t promise healing or cures. No one can.

But I can tell you without a doubt in my mind that your body was intelligently designed with an innate capacity to right the wrongs, to correct course, and to maintain balance when threatened with anything that alters its homeostasis.

I can’t heal you. YOU can.

If you want to truly heal, first, you have to believe this, and second, you have to begin to make decisions that reflect this belief.

You begin to eat differently, prioritize slowing down, and are more intentional about avoiding the things that keep you sick. You change your lifestyle and your habits. You may even change the people that you hang out with or the entertainment that you consume.

Believing that you can heal and acting upon that belief requires guts and a willingness to become uncomfortable. It requires a curiosity and a certain level of confidence, because you cannot be deterred by what others may think of you when you begin to make decisions that go against the cultural norm. It is a big commitment.

I won’t lie to you. It’s not always easy. I don’t claim to have all the answers, and I refuse to ever tell you that the science is settled. I will continue to read, to ask questions, and to consider perspectives that contradict my own. And because I cannot stand to keep good information all to myself, if you come along for the ride, I promise to keep you abreast of all that I learn.

If you’re willing to challenge the status quo and consider an alternative way of approaching your health and wellness, I would be honored to be your guide.

The healing shift is in your mindset.
